Call for Presenters

The NYS Forum Project Management Work Group is soliciting presentation submissions to be considered for the session topic of Status Reporting.

Session Description / Target Audience

The objective of this Status Reporting session is to share best practices for project status reporting. As a critical project communication artifact, a status report needs to consider the audience, cadence of reporting, delivery medium, and type and level of information to be included. Alignment between the executive summary and the detail information included in the body of the report is important for the reliability of the report. Pitfalls to avoid include use of jargon, inconsistencies between sections, and unclear project status.

The session will be held at the NYS Forum location in Albany, and will also be available as a Webcast.

We are seeking facilitators, presenters and/or members of a panel for this session. We intend to have presentation(s) followed by a panel discussion that will include a question and answer (Q&A) component. You can propose to participate as a Presenter and/or a Panelist. The full session will last 1½ hours. We encourage you to respond with a proposal, and if you know of government staff who may be a potential Presenter or Panelist, please forward their information.

The session is open to all NYS Forum members, and it would be of particular interest to Project Management practitioners, and Business Analysts and others aspiring to move into a PM role.

Presentation and discussion topics could include: We encourage you to suggest other topics for consideration that may be relevant.

  • What makes a good status report?
  • Standard sections (e.g. Recently completed deliverables, risks and mitigation strategies, obstacles/issues)
  • Accuracy of information
  • Appropriate level of information to include in report
  • Catering to various audiences
  • Succinctly reporting project health

All presentations must be vendor neutral. Presentation content will be vetted by members of The NYS Forum Work Groups hosting this event. Feedback and recommendations regarding final presentation material will be provided by this group.


Presentation Guidelines - Rules of Engagement

  • Presentation must be made using The NYS Forum's Power Point template.
  • Presenter corporate logo and contact information should appear on the first and last Power Point slides only. Corporate logo must not appear on each individual slide.
  • The presenter must discuss the topic at an expert level, and direct the presentation toward the specific targeted audience identified.
  • The presentation portion is limited to 45 minutes.


  • 6/15/2018 - Call for presenters distributed to vendor community.
  • 7/12/2018 - Deadline for proposals from vendors.
  • 7/19/2018- Selection/notification of presenters
  • 7/26/2018 - Deadline for first draft of presenter Power Points and related PLEASE NOTE: All PowerPoint presentations MUST be made on The NYS Forum PowerPoint template which will be provided by the workgroup member coordinating this event.
  • 8/9/2018 - Deadline for final presentation Power Points and related documents (1 week prior to event date). PLEASE NOTE: All Power Point presentations MUST be made on The NYS Forum Power Point template which will be provided by the workgroup member coordinating this event.
  • 8/16/2018 - Event Date.

As presentations are selected, presenters and/or their contacts will be notified to discuss an appropriate date, time and place for the presentation. The full schedule, as it pertains to draft and final Power Point presentation due dates, will be determined and provided accordingly to the event date.
