Session Description

The NYS Forum seeks to hold a session on October 15 or 16, 2019 in NYC, on current and best practices in pattern recognition, data forensics, security information management, anomaly detection, data analytics, and data visualization.

Presenters are invited to present projects where statistical analysis, log analysis, security event and information management, machine learning algorithms, and artificial intelligence were used to identify, predict, and visualize patterns, anomalies, and alerts in large datasets.

Presenters should consider the following questions in their presentation:

  • What are the characteristics of a project or set of projects that provided near real time analysis, specifically in the data flow, data storage, analysis processing, and then presentation of results?
  • What are the characteristics and use cases of projects that use machine learning to identify, predict, and visualize patterns, anomalies, and alerts in large datasets.
  • What are the data normalization and preparation efforts that are typically carried out in projects?
  • What projects can highlight AI and ML efforts that alert to human error, over modification of records, and new anomalies and risks not yet known?
  • What projects showcase security event and information management efforts while also providing analytical and visualization capabilities?
  • What are the skill sets, capabilities, and responsibilities necessary for an agency to ensure that the data flow, storage and analysis processing is systematic? Additionally, what are the organizational skills needed to maximize the utility of such a service?

This session will inform the larger NYS government community of the tools and practices in the range of topics including why it is important and how it can be applied effectively.

All presentations must be vendor neutral. Presentation content will be vetted by members of The NYS Forum Work Group hosting this event. Feedback and recommendations regarding final presentation material will be provided by this group.
