Business Continuity and Risk Management During a Time of Fiscal Crisis

The purpose of this session is to discuss trends that are emerging as public and private sector organizations have been forced to balance business continuity needs with fiscal realities. The goal is to help leadership and management to understand Business Continuity and Risk Management activities and to adequately prioritize these activities even when resources are very limited.

John Morency, Research Vice President at Gartner Inc., will share an industry perspective on Business Continuity trends (e.g., where are limited resources are being spent?) and top Business Continuity & Risk Management priorities for 2011. (60 minutes)

Rick Cobello, Director of IT from Schenectady County, will discuss "building your own" with Open Source and industry software. He will cover best practices and pitfalls of building your own Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity site. (30 minutes)

Joe D'Angelo, Director of Technical Services from Serverware Corp, will discuss how to incorporate Data Protection and application availability into a cost-effective yet comprehensive Business Continuity architecture for both virtual and physical environments. (30 minutes)

Following the three presentations, the speakers will join Business Continuity Work Group Co-Chair Mark Spreitzer from CGI in a panel discussion and answer audience questions. (60 minutes)

The event will be held from 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the Empire State Plaza, Meeting Room 2 on March 2, 2011.
