Project Management for Websites

Session Overview

"Project Management for Websites" is a joint offering of the Webmasters Guild and the Project Management Committee. We will touch on the principles of Project Management that led to the success of the website projects presented. This is not intended as a technical session on how to build a website. Instead, we want both Project Managers and Webmasters to walk away with a set of tools that will directly help them on their next project. Project Managers will get a look into what Information Technology (IT) components they should consider for their next project, including who should be invited onto the team and why. Webmasters will get insight into the elements of Project Management that can help them reduce errors, improve management buy-in, and provide a better web product.

This meeting is being jointly offered by the Webmasters' Guild and the Project Management Committee.

Project management is a useful and proven tool for bringing projects to a successful conclusion. Chris will provide a groundwork for the presentations that will follow including a brief high-level look at terminology and concepts.

Tips and Techniques from the Attorney Scheduling Project

Nancy is a certified project manager and has over 13 years of project management experience in both the private and public sector that includes managing web based application projects, developing project management processes and reviewing large projects for usage of PM processes. She has been managing projects for DMV since 2006. This presentation will focus on the Attorney Scheduling project that was implemented in August of 2008, and will provide some project management tips and techniques that were used during the project.

Kathleen will explore some of the PM issues encountered during the redesign of the website. The project affected 600,000 pages of content, 60 sub-sites, and 200 web publishers. The issues raised and lessons learned from a project of this scope will help you to be better prepared for your upcoming website projects.
