This month's meeting features a topic we haven't visited recently, Online Training, and we're fortunate to have an expert speaker from our own ranks in a NYS agency. Whether your interest is in designing online training, delivering it, receiving it, or evaluating it, this presentation will provide information and discussion that addresses those interests. The design considerations of interactivity, presentation, usability, accessibility, incorporation of media, etc. that play such a prominent role in online training apply equally well to any web-based activity. So even if training is not your thing, there is still much to learn here.

More and more, government trainers are turning to teaching online, or synchronous training, where the instructor and students meet in real-time. Contrary to popular belief, synchronous training is not as simple as taking out your traditional classroom course and showing it online. This workshop will cover the basics of synchronous training and how to design for the online classroom. Participants will learn how to build engaging and interactive programs that really transfer knowledge and build skills, and how to avoid common mistakes that isolate participants and encourage multitasking. Participants will leave this session with a fist-full of strategies to get them started on the right path to successful synchronous learning. The course will also cover considerations for selecting an online classroom from popular platforms such as Cisco WebEx or Adobe Connect to hold classes. We will also discuss how much you can really expect to pay to convert your traditional classroom courses into successful webinars. We will examine the true cost of webinar platforms and their support systems, including the hidden costs your salesperson can't or won't tell you about. More importantly, discover the true savings you can realize with webinars.
