(with a look at plugins and some advanced features)

Presenters: Eric Steinborn, NYS DCJS and Jon Briccetti, NYS CSCIC

It's been a while since we've had a hands-on demonstration session dedicated to Web scripting, but it's been worth the wait as our final meeting before the summer hiatus focuses on jQuery. Topics include:

  • Brief history of jQuery
  • Brief description of the DOM
  • How to load jQuery into your site
    • Document Ready function
  • Basic selection
  • Basic functions
    • .add/remove class
    • .slideup/down
    • .html
    • and more
  • A quick look at a few plugins (ColorBox, tablesorter, ListNav, qTip) and a demonstration of how easy plugins are to implement on your site using jQuery, mostly demoing the use of object literals to define plugin properties.
  • JQuery use case demonstration: an intelligent form "wizard"
  • Using JQuery with an eye for accessibility
  • jQuery UI widgets, themes and CSS Framework
