The mission of the Forum's Project Management Work Group is to devise, implement and sponsor events and programs, customized for NYS-based government entities, that facilitate the development and growth of project management best practices and competencies.

Current Programs and Events

The PM Work Group supports government entities and government project managers as they mature project management standards and practices, evolve Project Management Offices (PMOs), and implement program and portfolio management within their organizations. The PM Work Group has established and leads the following groups and programs in this effort:

The NYS PM Community of Practice (PM COP) provides a forum for an interactive exchange of ideas, practices, lessons learned, etc. among project managers in New York government. This knowledge exchange is facilitated by regularly scheduled presentations and discussions. This group is open to all NYS Forum members interested in learning more about Project Management topics.

Project Spotlight is a series of PM topic-focused monthly interactive sessions that highlight challenges, lessons learned and best practices from ongoing or recently concluded projects. It is focused on mitigating issues on complex projects. All interested NYS Forum members are welcome to attend.

The PMO Leadership Network seeks to support PMO directors in maturing their organizations and addressing common issues of interest, including management of agency project portfolios, controlling large-scale programs, and delivering lasting value to their agencies. The group also welcomes and supports agencies that seek to establish nascent PMOs. The membership of the PMO Leadership Network is limited to NYS agencies that have a formal Project Management Office, or undertaking an initiative under executive sponsorship to establish one, and ITCR members who are part of the PM Work Group.

The PM Work Group also sponsors joint events with other Forum Work Groups and outside organizations, such as the local PMI and IIBA chapters.

To Participate:

Community of Practice, Project Spotlight and other jointly sponsored events are posted on the NYS Forum's Calendar of Events. All NYS Forum State and Local Government and Corporate members are welcome to join the PM Community of Practice to be kept informed of upcoming PM COP, Project Spotlight and joint events and to receive other related communications and surveys (select "Join" from the navigation menu on the left).

To Get Involved:

If these activities sound like fun, and if you would like to become involved in the planning and execution of these programs and events and in bringing added value to the NYS project management community, consider becoming a member of the NYS PM Work Group.

We have monthly meetings (that are posted on the Calendar of Events) and all we ask is that you come ready to do some exciting work (it is, after all, called a WORK Group) and contribute your talents and expertise to this important public-private partnership.

To get involved, please contact one of the co-chairs listed on top of this page.
