What can Office 365 do for you?

Office 365 diminishes digital overload by providing "one-stop" shopping. It brings all your collaboration resources into a single screen on desktop and on mobile devices, so you can focus on your project rather than on manipulating technology and making use of multiple software applications. This streamlined capability improves project management, enterprise communication, and collaboration, maximizing the potential to achieve successful project outcomes.

Presentation Description

Transitioning to a common platform for communications and collaboration using Office 365 was one of the ITS Transformation Initiatives started in 2012. The presentation will provide an overview of the NYS Office 365 project to date from a Project Management viewpoint. Tools, techniques, methodologies, approaches, and challenges will be presented with the aim of sharing lessons learned and how some challenges affected the project and decision making.

Christopher J. Ford, MSIS, PMP
Chris began his career with the NYS Department of Health in 1992 as a computer programmer working on multiple platforms and languages. In 2008, Chris joined a unit tasked with creating the agency's Project Management Office (PMO) serving as their IT lead and branching into Project Management. The PMO launched in June 2008. In November 2012, the PMO was absorbed into the new NYS Office of Information Technology Services (NYS ITS) and is currently serving as the Health Cluster PMO.

While in the PMO, Chris served as the Project Manager on the DOH Active Directory Consolidation, the DOH Office 365 Implementation Pilot, the DOH Office 365 Implementation, and the OMH Office 365 Implementation projects. He is currently the Program Manager for the NYS Office 365 Phase 2 project that addresses the remaining efforts related to the statewide implementation of Office 365 and user adoption of the Office 365 tools. Chris is a member of the Project Management Institute (PMI), the Upstate NY Chapter of PMI, and several other organizations. He is a member of several NYS Forum Workgroups and a former Government Co-Chair of the NYS Forum Webmasters' Guild (now called the Web and Accessibility Workgroup). Chris earned a Bachelor's of Science in Combined Computer Science from the University at Albany, SUNY and his Masters of Science degree in Information Science from the Rockefeller College, School of Information Science and Policy, SUNYA. Chris earned his Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute in 2010.
