Are you in the field of GIS, Project Management, Policy Planning, Data Analysis, Open Data, Human Centered Design, IT Procurement or Application and Technology Architecture? This session will be informative for many in the City Technology community.

The NYC Facilities Explorer interactive planning tool presentation will demonstrate the Department of City Planning's successful use of open source technology for a "build versus buy" project model.

Topics will include data set and mapping platform enhancements, open source project management tools, experience with the user-centered project approach, the technologies utilized for building the Explorer platform, City Open Data use and interagency collaboration.

The Department of City Planning aggregates information about facilities and program sites that are owned, operated, funded, licensed or certified by a City, State, or Federal agency in the City of New York into a central database called the City Planning Facilities Database (FacDB). FacDB aggregates more than 35,000 records from 43 different public data sources provided by City, State, and Federal agencies. This database and its interactive map build upon City Planning's decades-old work on the Selected Facilities and Program Sites Database, which this new product replaces.
