Presentation Overview

Since the inception of data processing and information technology, the technical underpinnings and business requirements of enterprise systems have continued to evolve. First, we saw the migration from massive mainframe systems to the deployment of more departmental solutions on mini-computers. With the advent of personal computers on every desktop, we saw the emergence of client-server applications built primarily on relational database technology stacks.

Now, technology and business needs are evolving into a new era - the Cloud. But what does that really mean for IT staffers, for cash flow, and for the business users? As with any fundamental change, the Cloud brings both opportunities and pitfalls.

Our presenters will address the following questions to help you gain a better understanding of the foundational definitions of different types of Cloud solutions and to gain insights into some of the key implications of moving systems to the Cloud.

  • What is really meant by Private, Public and Hybrid Clouds?
  • How do you determine the best path forward for given situations and environments?
  • How do Cloud solutions change financial operating models and what are some of the key differences in things like flexibility, integration with other mission-critical systems, agility over time to meet new opportunities and challenges?
  • Are cloud solutions really secure?
  • What are your responsibilities for successful cloud applications? What are the vendor's responsibility?
  • What are some lessons learned from less than optimal cloud implementations?

Learning Objectives

Attendees will benefit from practical knowledge about these emerging technologies that will help them to discern the differences between various architectures and key elements of performance, e.g. Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Attendees will be able to apply this knowledge to help their organizations to better understand and evaluate the real implications of these options and to make sure they fully understand the emerging world of Cloud computing.
